The range figures are not directly comparable. CLTC, the Chinese test cycle, is more generous than WLTP. For reference, the standard-wheelbase iX3 is rated at around 800km on WLTP in Europe, so on paper the two cars are closer than the headline numbers suggest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: the early arrival<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The electric GLC gets to India unusually quickly. Mercedes<\/a><\/span><\/strong> says it will be its fastest global model to reach India as a locally assembled car, about six months after European sales began. Local assembly at Chakan is what makes the expected Rs 80 lakh to Rs 90 lakh price possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The numbers are strong. Two motors make 490hp and 800Nm, and Mercedes claims 0- 100 km\/h in 4.3 seconds for a car that weighs about 2.5 tonnes. The 94kWh battery is rated for up to 715km on WLTP, and the claimed 330kW DC charging can add up to 300km in 10 minutes. International cars get air suspension and 4.5 degrees of rear-axle steering; we will know at launch which of those the India car keeps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside, the headline is a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen that runs across the dashboard and combines the driver display, central screen and passenger display. It runs fourth-generation MBUX with a built-in AI assistant. Mercedes has kept physical controls on the steering wheel and centre console, which is the right call. Glass from pillar to pillar looks spectacular in a showroom, but buttons are easier at 80 km\/h on a broken road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase: the bigger bet<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The iX3 is the first car on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, the architecture behind its next generation of electric cars. India gets the long-wheelbase version developed for China, which BMW<\/a><\/span><\/strong> revealed at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026. Its wheelbase is 108mm longer than the standard iX3, at 3,006mm, and BMW says the gain is aimed squarely at rear-seat comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That choice tells you who BMW expects to buy it. In India, an SUV<\/a><\/span><\/strong> at this price is often driven by a chauffeur at least part of the time, and the back seat matters as much as the front. A long-wheelbase iX3 suits that use better than any compact electric SUV on sale now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hardware is also a step ahead on paper. The 108.7kWh battery is larger than the GLC’s, the 800V system supports DC charging at up to 400kW, and BMW claims more than 400km added in about 10 minutes and 10 to 80 percent in about 21 minutes. Power is 469PS and 645Nm from two motors. Inside, there is a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and BMW’s Panoramic Vision display, which projects information across the base of the windscreen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What we don’t know is the important part: the India price, the India range figure, and whether BMW will assemble it locally. Autocar India’s listing carries an estimate in the Rs 78 lakh to Rs 85 lakh band, but BMW has not confirmed anything. If it arrives as a full import, the price will be a different story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charging: does 330kW vs 400kW matter in India?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Less than the spec sheet suggests. Both peak figures depend on finding a public charger that can actually deliver that much power, and on the battery being at the right temperature and charge level. For most owners, the car will charge overnight on a home wallbox, and the fast-charging number only comes into play on long highway trips. If you regularly drive Mumbai to Pune or Delhi to Jaipur, check what is installed along your route before you treat either number as a reason to buy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What matters more day to day is whether you can install a home charger at all. In many housing societies, that means getting a NOC, which can take longer than the car’s delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which one should you choose?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Buy the GLC<\/a><\/span><\/strong> Electric if you want a luxury electric SUV in the next few months, you mostly drive yourself, and you like the idea of local assembly keeping the price in check. It is the more complete proposition today simply because it is here, priced, and backed by a local plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wait for the iX3 Long Wheelbase if rear-seat space is your priority, you are happy to keep your current car until 2027, and you are willing to see how BMW prices it. On paper it has the bigger battery and faster charging, and the extra wheelbase is a real advantage in the Indian market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
