It is the warranty. Porsche India’s own price list puts a one-year warranty extension at about Rs 1.79 lakh for a Macan and Rs 2.66 lakh for a Cayenne, and owners on Team-BHP treat it as non-negotiable. Add routine servicing (typically under Rs 1 lakh a visit for a Macan, and Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh for a Cayenne’s intermediate service) and you are looking at roughly Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh a year before insurance, fuel and tyres. Our advice: buy a car young enough to stay inside Porsche’s warranty programme, and count that warranty as part of the purchase price.

This guide covers which years to buy, what each generation cost new, what the warranty actually covers, and what Indian owners have really paid to run these cars.

Why the warranty is the biggest number

Porsche’s extended warranty in India, sold as the Porsche Approved Warranty, is what makes a used Macan or Cayenne a sensible purchase rather than a gamble. According to Porsche India’s brochure:

Cars can be covered up to 15 years old. To buy cover, the car must be under 14 years old for a 12-month policy, under 13 for 24 months and under 12 for 36 months, with less than 2,00,000km on the odometer.

There is no kilometre limit while the cover runs.

It covers parts and labour on the engine, transmission, suspension and steering, brakes, air conditioning, electrics and body, with no excess to pay, and includes roadside assistance.

It does not cover wear items: tyres, brake pads and discs, shock absorbers, batteries, filters, fluids and similar parts.

Every service must be done by a Porsche Centre and recorded. If a service has been missed, a major service is required first.

A car whose warranty has lapsed can still be covered with a “stand-alone” policy, but only after at least 90 days of ownership and a 111-point inspection at a Porsche Centre, with any faults fixed before cover starts.

What it costs. These are Porsche Centre Mumbai’s published prices (price list dated March 2023, inclusive of taxes):

Policy

Macan

Cayenne

Extension, 12 months

Rs 1.79 lakh

Rs 2.66 lakh

Extension, 36 months

Rs 4.57 lakh

Rs 6.75 lakh

Pre-owned, 12 months

Rs 1.58 lakh

Rs 2.29 lakh

Pre-owned, 36 months

Rs 3.95 lakh

Rs 5.65 lakh

Stand-alone (lapsed cover), 12 months

Rs 2.20 lakh

Rs 3.08 lakh

Stand-alone (lapsed cover), 36 months

Rs 5.00 lakh

Rs 7.18 lakh

Prices have risen since. In October 2025, a Team-BHP owner who bought a 2020 Macan through Porsche Approved in Bengaluru was quoted Rs 5.3 lakh for a three-year extension while his warranty was live, and Rs 5.7 lakh if he let it lapse. Treat the table as a floor and ask for a current quote against the car’s VIN.

Two lessons follow. First, a Cayenne’s warranty costs roughly 50 percent more than a Macan’s, every year. Second, letting cover lapse is expensive: the stand-alone policy costs more and needs an inspection. If the car you are buying has warranty left, extend it before it runs out.

Pre-owned Macan and Cayenne at a glance

Model and period

Engines in India

Price new, ex-showroom

Current new price (Oct 2026)

Macan, 2014 launch

3.0 V6 diesel (S Diesel), 3.6 V6 petrol (Turbo)

Rs 98.18 lakh (S Diesel), Rs 1.08 crore (Turbo)

Macan 2.0, from Nov 2016

2.0 four-cylinder turbo-petrol, 252hp

Rs 76.84 lakh

Macan facelift, July 2019

2.0 petrol, 248bhp; 3.0 V6 petrol (Macan S), 349bhp

Rs 69.9 lakh (Macan), Rs 85.03 lakh (Macan S)

Macan facelift, Nov 2021

2.0 petrol, 265hp; 2.9 V6 (S, GTS)

From Rs 83.21 lakh

Rs 91.09 lakh (petrol Macan)

Cayenne, third generation, Oct 2018

3.0 V6 petrol, 340hp; e-Hybrid; V8 Turbo

Rs 1.19 crore (V6), Rs 1.58 crore (e-Hybrid), Rs 1.92 crore (Turbo)

Cayenne facelift, Apr 2023

3.0 V6 petrol, 348bhp

About Rs 1.36 crore (Cayenne), Rs 1.42 crore (Coupe)

Rs 1.51 to 2.11 crore (Cayenne), Rs 1.57 to 2.13 crore (Coupe)

Launch prices from Autocar India, Autocar Professional and evo India launch reports; current prices from Autocar India’s Porsche listing, updated 29 September 2026. Prices at launch were ex-showroom and varied slightly by state.

Two things the table tells you. The petrol Macan has been on sale in India for close to a decade at roughly the same price band, so there are a lot of them on the used market. And the third-generation Cayenne, sold from 2018, came without a diesel: Porsche had decided to drop diesel engines, according to Autocar Professional’s launch report. Any diesel Cayenne you see is from the previous generation.

Used Porsche Macan: which years to buy

Our pick: a 2019 to 2021 facelift or a post-November 2021 car, petrol, bought through Porsche Approved or with warranty that can still be extended.

2014 to 2016 cars are mainly the Macan S Diesel and the Macan Turbo. They are now old enough that extended warranty becomes harder to buy (the 36-month policy needs the car to be under 12 years old). A 2016 diesel on a Delhi registration also reaches the city’s 10-year diesel limit in 2026, so it has no life left there.

The 2.0 petrol (late 2016 onwards) is the Macan most used buyers end up with. A Team-BHP member who bought a 2017 four-cylinder Macan with 15,000km in 2020 reported no major problems over his ownership, only routine servicing.

The July 2019 facelift added the Macan S with a 349bhp V6, a better choice if you want the Porsche feel to match the badge.

The November 2021 facelift brought 265hp to the 2.0 and is the youngest petrol Macan, so it has the most warranty runway.

What owners actually spend. The most detailed recent Indian account is a Team-BHP ownership thread on a 2020 Macan bought through Porsche Approved in October 2025:

Fuel: above 8kmpl in city driving with the AC on, about 9kmpl on a spirited highway run and 11.2kmpl on a longer trip, on high-octane petrol. The owner noted the engine felt heavier when he had to fill regular fuel.

Tyres: the original Michelins lasted more than 50,000km and five years. Replacing them was the shock. Porsche-approved “N-rated” tyres cost 50 to 100 percent more than equivalent non-N versions, and the 18-inch size was hard to find. He bought the tyres from a third-party seller and had them fitted outside the dealership to save on labour.

Service: another member in the thread put a routine service estimate at under Rs 1 lakh, rising if major parts are replaced.

Warranty: renewing it was the first thing he did after buying, specifically because his car has air suspension.

Downtime: an experienced member advised keeping the car under warranty and keeping a second car, because warranty work can mean two to three weeks a year at the workshop.

Used Porsche Cayenne: which years to buy

Our pick: a 2018-onward third-generation Cayenne with the 3.0 V6 petrol and full Porsche Centre history, or a 2023-onward facelift if your budget allows.

Pre-2018 Cayennes (the previous generation, including diesels) are cheap to buy, but they are at or beyond the age where extended warranty is still available. Without it, every major fault is yours to pay.

The 2018 to 2022 cars are the sweet spot for value. The 340hp V6 is plenty, and the e-Hybrid was also sold from launch.

The April 2023 facelift gets 348bhp and Porsche’s newer cabin. It is the youngest, so it carries the most warranty runway, and its price new is closest to today’s list price, which makes the asking price easier to judge.

What owners actually spend. A Team-BHP member who imported a Cayenne GTS under Porsche warranty shared these estimates in 2023:

Intermediate service: about Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh.

Major service, every four years: about Rs 2 lakh.

Extended warranty: he estimated the Cayenne’s cover at around 40 percent more than a 911’s or Cayman’s, which is in line with Porsche’s own price list above.

A realistic annual budget

Using the figures above, this is what a typical year looks like for a car that is still inside Porsche’s warranty programme. It is our arithmetic from the cited prices, not a quote.

Cost item

Macan

Cayenne

Warranty extension (1 year, 2023 list price)

Rs 1.79 lakh

Rs 2.66 lakh

Routine service (per year, owner estimates)

Under Rs 1 lakh

Rs 0.8 to 1 lakh (Rs 2 lakh in a major-service year)

Known annual cost before insurance, fuel and tyres

About Rs 2.5 to 2.8 lakh

About Rs 3.5 to 3.7 lakh, more in a major-service year

Budget separately for insurance, fuel, and a set of tyres every four to five years. Buying a three-year extension brings the yearly warranty cost down (Rs 4.57 lakh for a Macan works out to about Rs 1.5 lakh a year on the 2023 list), but current quotes are higher, as the October 2025 example shows.

Three India-specific costs most buyers miss

Re-registration if you move states. The Team-BHP Macan owner estimated he would lose close to Rs 10 lakh, including fees and agent commission, in re-registering his Karnataka car in Telangana, and that assumed his Karnataka road tax refund went smoothly. If you might relocate, factor this in, and check the rules for both states before you buy an out-of-state car.

Air suspension. Many Macans and Cayennes have air suspension as an option or standard. One Team-BHP member estimated a full replacement could run into double-digit lakhs. That is an estimate, not a quote, but it is the reason owners extend their warranties. Our air suspension problems guide explains the warning signs and the overnight check.

Fuel quality. Porsche petrol engines are designed for high-octane fuel. Owners report noticeably duller performance on regular petrol, so plan highway routes around fuel stations that sell 95-octane or higher.

Before you buy: our checklist

Ask a Porsche Centre to check the VIN for remaining factory or extended warranty, the full service record, and whether the car is eligible for an extension.

Get a current warranty quote for the exact car before agreeing a price. On an older car, it may be the deciding number.

Check that every service was done at a Porsche Centre. A gap means a major service before warranty can be bought.

Match the options to the listing. Air suspension, Sport Chrono and the exhaust options change both the price and the running cost. The Bengaluru owner’s car had air suspension, Sport Chrono and a sports exhaust, all of which are worth confirming on paper.

Inspect the tyres. If they are near the end, budget for N-rated replacements.

For a diesel in Delhi NCR, check the registration date against the 10-year limit.

A Porsche Approved car comes with Porsche’s own inspection and warranty. When Porsche launched the programme in India in 2022, evo India reported that it covered cars up to six years old and under 2,00,000km, with a 111-point inspection and at least 12 months’ warranty. Motozite lists cars from a range of sellers, so for any listing, confirm with a Porsche Centre exactly what warranty, if any, comes with the car.

For the full walk-round, use our used luxury car inspection checklist, and when you reach the numbers, see our guide on negotiating the price of a pre-owned luxury car.

Macan or Cayenne: which should you buy?

Lowest total cost: a 2019 to 2021 Macan 2.0 or Macan S with extendable warranty. It costs more to run, but you get a properly roomy five-seater with a bigger engine.

Youngest and simplest: a 2023-onward Cayenne facelift or a post-2021 Macan, bought with as much factory warranty left as possible.

Avoid unless you have a specialist and a repair fund: any Macan or Cayenne too old to buy an extended warranty for.

You can browse pre-owned Porsches on Motozite and compare them with current Macan and Cayenne prices. If you are considering electric, see the new Macan Electric and our post on the Porsche Cayenne Electric’s India debut.

FAQ

How much does it cost to maintain a used Porsche Macan in India?

Expect about Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 2.8 lakh a year before insurance, fuel and tyres, if you keep the car under Porsche’s extended warranty. That is based on Porsche India’s March 2023 list price of Rs 1.79 lakh for a one-year Macan warranty extension and owner estimates of under Rs 1 lakh per routine service. Current warranty quotes are higher, so ask a Porsche Centre for one against the car’s VIN.

How much does a Porsche Cayenne service cost in India?

A Team-BHP owner estimated a Cayenne’s intermediate service at about Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh, and the major service every four years at about Rs 2 lakh, in 2023. Porsche’s one-year extended warranty for a Cayenne was listed at Rs 2.66 lakh in March 2023, which is usually the bigger annual cost.

Can I buy an extended warranty on a used Porsche in India?

Yes. The Porsche Approved Warranty can cover cars up to 15 years old, with no kilometre limit during the cover, if the car has under 2,00,000km at purchase. To buy cover, the car must be under 14 years old for 12 months, under 13 for 24 months and under 12 for 36 months. If the original warranty has lapsed, Porsche requires a 111-point inspection and at least 90 days of ownership first.

What does the Porsche extended warranty not cover?

It excludes wear items such as tyres, brake pads and discs, shock absorbers, batteries, filters and fluids, according to Porsche India’s brochure. It covers the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, electrics, air conditioning and body against defects, with no excess, as long as every service is done and recorded at a Porsche Centre.

Which used Porsche Macan should I buy in India?

A 2019-onward petrol Macan, either the 2.0 or the V6 Macan S, is the best balance of price and warranty eligibility. The November 2021 facelift is the youngest and has the most warranty runway. Older 2014 to 2016 cars, including the Macan S Diesel, are cheaper but closer to the age limits for extended warranty.

Is a used Porsche Cayenne reliable?

Indian owners who keep their Cayennes under Porsche’s warranty report few out-of-pocket surprises, because the warranty replaces faulty parts. The risk rises sharply once a car is too old for extended cover, so the safest buy is a 2018-onward third-generation Cayenne with full Porsche Centre service history and warranty that can still be extended.

The real cost of owning a used Porsche Macan or Cayenne in India is not the service bill.
