It is quick, quiet, rides well, and has a 69kWh battery that Indian testers have found good for roughly 350km in real use. It is also a small car with a cramped rear seat and a cabin that hides almost every control inside one touchscreen. Our view: for a couple or a single owner who drives mostly in the city and can charge at home, it is a genuinely good buy. As the only car for a family of four, it is the wrong one.

Volvo EX30 price in India (October 2026)

There is one version: the Single Motor Extended Range, rear-wheel drive, sold in Ultra trim.

Volvo EX30 Ultra

Ex-showroom

Rs 41.00 lakh

RTO (Delhi)

Nil

Insurance

Rs 2.26 lakh (approx.)

Other charges

Rs 0.42 lakh

On-road, Delhi

Rs 43.67 lakh

Source: Autocar India’s Delhi on-road listing, updated 12 October 2026. Insurance is an estimate and will vary by insurer and add-ons.

The EX30 launched on 23 September 2025 at an introductory Rs 39.99 lakh for buyers who pre-booked before 19 October 2025, after which the price moved to Rs 41 lakh. It is assembled at Volvo’s plant in Hosakote, near Bengaluru, which is a large part of why it is priced where it is. The Delhi figure benefits from the city’s road-tax exemption for electric cars, so expect a higher on-road number in states that charge registration on EVs.

What comes in the box. According to Autocar India’s launch report, the price includes a 3-year warranty, a 3-year Volvo service package, 3 years of roadside assistance, an 8-year battery warranty, and an 11kW wallbox charger. Few buyers at this price get the service package and the charger bundled in, so factor that in when you compare it with rivals.

Volvo EX30 specifications

Spec

Volvo EX30

Battery

69kWh, NMC cells, liquid-cooled

Motor and drive

Single rear motor, rear-wheel drive

Power and torque

272hp, 343Nm

0 to 100kph

5.3 seconds (claimed)

Top speed

180 km/h (limited)

Claimed range

480km (WLTP)

Real-world range

About 350 to 360km (Autocar India estimate)

AC charging

About 7 hours, 0 to 100 percent, on 11kW

DC charging

About 25 minutes, 10 to 80 percent, on a 150kW charger

Boot

318 litres, plus a 7-litre frunk

Length and wheelbase

4,233mm, 2,650mm

Ground clearance

165mm

Sources: Autocar Professional and Autocar India launch reports (power, battery, range, performance, price), Autocar India’s first-drive review (charging, real-world range, boot).

That 5.3-second claim makes the EX30 the quickest Volvo you can buy in India, a slightly absurd thing to say about the brand’s smallest and cheapest car. evo India made the same point in its first drive.

Design and cabin: Scandinavian minimalism, taken all the way

The EX30 is Volvo’s first car designed from the start as an EV, built on Geely’s SEA2 architecture. It is compact (about the length of a large hatchback with an SUV stance), and it looks expensive on the road, with the “Thor’s hammer” LED headlamps, a closed-off nose and 19-inch aero wheels as standard.

Inside, it is unlike any other luxury car at this price. There is no instrument cluster at all. Speed, range and driver-assist alerts live in a strip at the top of a 12.3-inch vertical touchscreen, and Autocar India’s review counted not a single physical button on the dashboard. Headlamps, mirror adjustment and, according to evo India, even the glovebox are operated through the screen. The software is fast, runs Google Maps natively, and Apple CarPlay is wireless. Android users should connect their own phone during the test drive and check how well it works.

The materials are recycled, and the finish is good where you touch it, though evo India found scratchier plastics lower down. Storage is clever: large door bins (the speakers have moved into a dashboard soundbar) and a lower console with cupholders that slide away. The nine-speaker Harman Kardon system sounds properly good.

Our take on the screen: it is the single biggest thing to try before you buy. If you have driven a recent Tesla, you will adapt in a day. If you are moving from a car with a conventional dashboard, sit in the EX30 for twenty minutes, adjust the mirrors, change the fan speed and switch the lights on, all without the salesperson’s help. Whether that feels modern or maddening will decide whether you enjoy owning this car.

The rear seat and boot: where the price shows

This is the EX30’s weak spot, and every Indian review we read agrees. The floor is high, so rear passengers sit knees-up with little under-thigh support. Legroom is tight, and Autocar India said adults over six feet will struggle. There are no rear AC vents, no sunblinds, and no recline. Headroom is the only good news.

The boot is 318 litres, with another 61 litres under the floor according to evo India, plus a 7-litre frunk that mostly holds the charging cable. There is no spare wheel. That is enough for a couple’s weekend luggage. It is not enough for an airport run with four people and their bags.

The glass roof problem. The fixed panoramic roof comes without a blind. In evo India’s first drive, the tester got a sunburnt scalp on a sunny day, and Volvo said a blind would be offered as an accessory. In North Indian summers, with no rear AC vents either, this matters more than any spec on the sheet. If you are buying in Delhi, Rajasthan or anywhere with a harsh summer, ask the dealer what the blind costs and whether it can be fitted before delivery.

How the EX30 drives

Both Autocar India and evo India describe the same character: quick off the line, very refined and comfortable, but not exciting.

Performance. The 272hp rear motor gives immediate, linear thrust. Overtaking on a highway is effortless.

Ride. Firm, because of the battery’s weight, but well damped. Autocar India found no harshness or thuds from low-speed bumps, and evo India rated the ride among the best in its category.

Handling. Flat and stable with very little roll. The steering has three weights but little feel. Autocar India summed it up as predictable rather than engaging.

Regeneration. There is a one-pedal mode that works well in traffic, but no selectable regen levels and no drive modes.

Driver aids. The EX30 has Level 2 ADAS and a five-star Euro NCAP rating. On Indian roads, though, evo India’s tester had the system brake hard twice for motorcycles and switched much of it off in the city. Expect to do the same.

Range and charging in the real world

Volvo claims 480km (WLTP). Autocar India estimates 350 to 360km in real-world use, and that is the number to plan around.

The most useful India data point comes from Autocar India’s April 2026 road trip from Gurugram to Mumbai, about 1,600km over five days. On the Delhi to Jaipur leg (267km), the car started at 90 percent and arrived at 17 percent. By our arithmetic, that pace works out to roughly 365km on a full battery. The longer Jaipur to Udaipur leg (415km) needed a top-up, and the car arrived at 6 percent. The writer also found several public chargers out of service, and noted that range falls sharply as average speed rises.

At home, the bundled 11kW wallbox does a full charge in about 7 hours, and the same road-trip report took 5 to 6 hours to reach 100 percent from a partial charge. If you live in an apartment, read our guide to the home EV charger and society NOC before the car arrives.

Our view: the EX30 is a city car that can do highway trips, not a highway car. Daily commutes of 50 to 80km mean charging once or twice a week. Intercity runs beyond about 250km mean planning a fast-charging stop and a backup.

Volvo EX30 vs rivals: price comparison

Car

Powertrain

Ex-showroom (Oct 2026)

Volvo EX30

Electric, RWD

Rs 41.00 lakh

BYD Sealion 7

Electric

Rs 41.90 to 55.90 lakh

BMW iX1 LWB

Electric, FWD

Rs 52.40 lakh

Mini Countryman Electric

Electric

Rs 54.90 to 66.90 lakh

Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric

Electric

Rs 56.50 to 60.50 lakh

Volvo EC40

Electric

Rs 59.00 lakh

Prices from Autocar India’s brand listings, updated between 2 and 15 October 2026.

The BMW iX1 LWB is the most direct luxury-badge rival. It costs Rs 11.4 lakh more, and you get a much roomier rear seat and conventional controls for it. EVO India also found the iX1’s seats more comfortable. The EX30 is quicker, rides at least as well, and feels more distinctive.

The BYD Sealion 7 starts at almost the same price and is a much bigger car. If space for four is the priority, it is the obvious alternative. The EX30’s case against it is the Volvo badge, the dealer network and a more premium-feeling cabin.

Within Volvo’s own range, the EC40 costs Rs 18 lakh more. The EX30 is clearly the better value.

Who should buy the Volvo EX30?

Buy it if:

You are a couple or a solo buyer, and the rear seat is for occasional use.

Most of your driving is in the city, and you have a parking slot where the wallbox can go.

You want a European luxury car under Rs 45 lakh on-road and value safety, refinement, and design over equipment.

Look elsewhere if:

Adults or teenagers will regularly ride in the back. Look at the iX1 LWB or the Sealion 7.

You want cooled seats, rear AC vents, and physical buttons. The EX30 has none of them.

You regularly drive more than 250km in a day between cities.

Thinking of a used or demo EX30? The car has been on sale in India only since November 2025, so any pre-owned example will be young. Ask a Volvo dealer to confirm how much of the 3-year warranty, the service package, and the 8-year battery warranty is left, and whether each transfers to you. Ask too whether the wallbox stays with the car or with the first owner.

Verdict

The Volvo EX30 does what a luxury car is supposed to do: it feels special, it is beautifully quiet, and it rides well. At Rs 41 lakh with a wallbox, service package and warranty included, it is also the easiest route into a European luxury EV in India.

Its weaknesses are just as clear. The rear seat is tight, the screen-only cabin will frustrate some owners, and the uncovered glass roof is a real issue in an Indian summer. Treat it as a premium two-plus-two for the city, and it is very hard to fault. Ask it to be the family’s only car and the compromises arrive quickly.

You can compare the EX30’s current price and the full Volvo range on Motozite, or browse demo EVs and pre-owned EVs. There is only one version, the single-motor rear-wheel-drive Ultra. On-road prices will be higher in states that charge registration on EVs.

What is the real-world range of the Volvo EX30?

Volvo claims 480km on the WLTP cycle from the 69kWh battery. Autocar India estimates 350 to 360km in real-world driving, and its April 2026 Gurugram to Mumbai road trip covered 267km on about 73 percent of the battery. Range drops noticeably at higher highway speeds.

Does the Volvo EX30 come with a home charger?

Yes. According to Volvo’s launch announcements, the EX30 comes with an 11kW wallbox charger, along with a 3-year warranty, a 3-year service package, 3 years of roadside assistance, and an 8-year battery warranty. A full charge on the 11kW wallbox takes about 7 hours.

Is the Volvo EX30 good for a family?

It works for a couple or a small family with young children, but not for four adults. The rear seat is cramped, with a knees-up position, no rear AC vents and no recline, and the boot is 318 litres. Families who regularly carry adults in the back should look at the BMW iX1 LWB or BYD Sealion 7.

Is the Volvo EX30 made in India?

Yes. The EX30 is assembled at Volvo’s plant in Hosakote, near Bengaluru. It is the third electric Volvo assembled there, which helps explain its Rs 41 lakh ex-showroom price.

Does the Volvo EX30 have a sunroof blind?

No. The EX30 has a fixed panoramic glass roof without a blind, and in evo India’s first drive the roof let in enough sun to burn the tester’s scalp. Volvo said a blind would be offered as an accessory, so ask your dealer about price and availability before delivery.

The Volvo EX30 costs Rs 41.00 lakh ex-showroom and about Rs 43.67 lakh on-road in Delhi, which makes it the most affordable car you can buy from a European luxury brand in India today.
