BMW i5 LWB Launched in India at Rs. 79.60 Lakh With 669 km Range

BMW has launched the new i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India at Rs. 79.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric sedan combines a longer body, a spacious rear cabin, and an 81.6 kWh battery. One of its biggest highlights is its claimed range of up to 669 km under the MIDC test cycle.

The BMW i5 LWB is also notable because it is BMW India’s first locally produced electric sedan. The car is assembled at the BMW Group plant in Chennai.

BMW i5 LWB: Price and Variants

The BMW i5 LWB is offered in two versions: the eDrive35L M Sport and the limited First Edition. Both were priced at Rs. 79.60 lakh ex-showroom. The First Edition is limited to 99 units and includes additional design and interior features. According to Team-BHP, all 99 units were sold before the official launch.

669 km MIDC Range From an 81.6 kWh Battery

The BMW i5 LWB gets an 81.6 kWh battery pack and has a claimed range of up to 669 km on the MIDC cycle. This makes range one of the key highlights of the electric sedan.

It is important to note that the 669 km figure comes from the standard MIDC test procedure. BMW states that the actual range can vary depending on driving style, route, outside temperature, heating or air-conditioning use, and other conditions. The i5 LWB also supports DC fast charging at up to 160 kW, adding practicality for longer journeys.

Performance and Dimensions

The BMW i5 LWB uses a single electric motor with rear-wheel drive. It produces 264 bhp and 410 Nm of torque, allowing the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. The car measures 5,175 mm in length and has a 3,105 mm wheelbase. Compared with the standard i5, the longer wheelbase creates more space for passengers in the rear.

The sedan also gets adaptive rear-axle air suspension, which is designed to improve ride comfort and stability. BMW has also increased the ground clearance for Indian road conditions.
